If you are staying at Exmouth Marina for longer, it’s worth taking the time to discover the local area. Exmouth is a traditional seaside town with plenty to see and do – it boasts a beautiful stretch of sandy beach, with amusements, tour-boat operators, a crazy golf course and a model railway on the seafront. The town has shops and restaurants to suit different tastes, many historical buildings and even a family-friendly bowling and soft-play centre for days when the weather is less than ideal. Exmouth hosts a series of different festivals and celebrations throughout the year, including food and music events and firework displays – there’s even an annual Christmas Day swim!

Exmouth lies on the South West Coast Path, and there are plenty of excellent clifftop walks to try – for example, east along the coast to the charming town of Budleigh Salterton. Exmouth has its own two-mile stretch of beach, but a walk along the coast will bring you to other beautiful beaches, including Sandy Bay, a sheltered, privately-owned beach which is popular with families. Exmouth is immediately adjacent to the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so whether you plan to explore the coast or travel further inland, you’re guaranteed wonderful scenery and some simply stunning views.

You can also follow the Exe Estuary Trail (on foot or by bike) and enjoy views over the Wildlife Refuge at Dawlish Warren. Exmouth to Lympstone is a gentle route, popular with walkers, which forms part of the Trail; Exmouth and Lympstone are on the Avocet rail line, which connects Exmouth and Exeter, so if you wish you can walk in one direction and then catch a train back to the start.

Travelling beyond Exmouth, the vibrant city of Exeter is a short drive north from Exmouth. Mixing ancient history with a modern and varied cultural scene, this eclectic city has a great mix of independent shops and boutiques, cafes and bars, alongside high-street staples. Exeter is fondly regarded as a ‘foodie capital’ of the South West, and is also renowned for its thriving independent arts scene. A popular location for high-profile sporting and musical events, the city’s independent venues – from the intimate Exeter Cavern to the huge grounds of nearby Powderham Castle - play host to a full calendar of events and festivals all year round.

There is so much to see and do in our beautiful part of the world. Whether you plan to explore as much of it as possible, or prefer to relax on the beach with a good book, Exmouth Marina makes a great starting point – especially as you know your boat is safe and secure while you’re out and about.
